Our Story
Our Story
MBC has been making a significant impact and influencing the Murrumbeena area for over 130 years! And it all began with a vision and dream to reach young people for Jesus. From the home of our founders into the local primary and secondary schools the vision of making disciples forged a pathway into the heart of our community.

Our Heart Beat
Our Heart Beat
This is what makes us tick Our values are so important to us as a church and as followers of Jesus. We live these – we breathe these – it’s who we are and how we do life and ministry together.
Our Mission Statement
Our Mission Statement
We honour God with our lives and share the truth and love of Jesus with people everywhere.
Our Values
Our Values
1. Growing as disciples of Jesus
1. Growing as disciples of Jesus
We aim to grow in our dependence on God and our maturity as followers of Jesus. We recognize the importance of the Bible in pointing us to Jesus and seek to grow our love and knowledge of God through studying the Bible, and spending time with God in prayer.
2. People coming to know God through Jesus
2. People coming to know God through Jesus
We are committed to people coming to know the love and truth of Jesus both locally and across the world. We see this as our overriding purpose as a community of faith. This includes the invitation to others to become disciples of Jesus through both our words and our actions. Go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. (Matthew 28)

3. Sharing faith through serving and sharing life with our community
3. Sharing faith through serving and sharing life with our community
Our focus is on sharing our faith through serving and sharing life with people around us, recognising that in our non–Christian culture, people need to see faith in action, not just words. We provide opportunities for people to come together, and get involved in other community activities e.g. sports, clubs, arts groups, work social groups etc. and use our buildings to support this. We seek to our community in a range of ways, especially those who are poor or marginalized. Love your neighbour as yourself (Luke 10) I was hungry and you gave me something to eat... (Matthew 25)

4. Mission undertaken as a community
4. Mission undertaken as a community
We undertake mission as a community of people, not a set of individuals. We recognise that we are all called by God to share the good news of Jesus, but all have different roles to play as we seek to use the gifts and skills we have been given. We help each other recognise our gifts and encourage each other to use them. We hold each other accountable and support each other in our different ministry’s through prayer and sharing resources, skills and experience. Now you are the body of Christ and each one of you is a part of it. And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers... (1 Corinthians 12)

5. Faith impacts all of life
5. Faith impacts all of life
We see discipleship as being whole-of-life, recognising God as the creator of all things, bringing the kingdom where we are, and seeking God’s glory in all that we do (even the 4 mundane). We don’t sugar coat the hard things in life and pretend everything is great all the time, but celebrate a God who walks with us through the good times and the hard times. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind. (Luke 10)
